Project Engineer, Renewable Energy
I. Job Summary
Supports the Renewable Energy Project Director for all project engineering tasks required for the development, engineering, and construction of landfill gas to energy projects, including power plants and gas pipelines. All activities will be coordinated with and supported by the remainder of the WMRE staff, WM landfill engineering and operations staff, consultants, and outside construction manager. Typical number of projects in development or construction will be 20 to 30, and the Project Engineer will have responsibility for about one third of the projects.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Technical support and data collection during feasibility studies for potential projects.
- Manage and coordinate permitting efforts, including participation in permitting strategy.
- Supervise consultant for preparation of design and construction drawings.
- Manage and submit interconnect applications to electric utilities, including coordination with utility representatives, cost analysis, review of technical requirements, and review of contract terms.
- Oversee and participate with outside construction manager for pre-bid conference, pre-qualifying bidders, selection of contractors, and construction.
- Manage project schedule and cost for each project.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
- No direct supervision of full-time employees.
- For the specific tasks related to the permitting, design, and construction of a renewable energy plant, indirect supervision of WM Market Area engineers, WM TAC staff, consulting engineers, and third-party project managers.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Petroleum Engineering or Architecture
At least 7 years of civil, electric power, petrochemical, or construction management experience including at least 3 years of direct experience with project engineering, construction management, or project management of construction projects.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
Registered Professional Engineer or Architect.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
None.
